ASEAN and East Asia: Using Sociolinguistic Competence to Share Your Culture

ASEAN and East Asia: Using Sociolinguistic Competence to Share Your Culture
Ms. Lieske will begin by discussing some of the results of a questionnaire that has been administered to over 7,000 university students in ASEAN and East Asian countries. This questionnaire explores how student perceive English and its uses in international communication. Ms. Lieske will explain how an understanding of these results can help you when you communicate with foreigners. As AEC2015 draws closer, it is increasingly important to be able to effectively communicate across cultures. As a result, building on Ms. Lieske’s presentation, Mr. Menking will give a brief example of how to share your Cambodian culture with the world.
